Cathodic Protection
For corrosion to occur there must be four basic elements: electrolyte, anode, cathode and metallic return circuit. Cathodic protection is the procedure by which an underground metallic pipe is protected against corrosion. A direct current is impressed onto the pipe by means of a sacrificial anode or a rectifier. Corrosion will be reduced where sufficient current flows. Pacific States Utility Company will design, install and maintain a cathodic protection system for you that best suits your gas pipeline.
